Salary: UK: £55,200 - £83,000 or ROI: €74,600 - €111,800 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

At SSE Thermal we are growing our Grid Services Team to support our extensive portfolio of development, construction, and generation projects.
The Grid Services Team plays an integral role in the development of Low Carbon and Net Zero generation by managing the Gas, Electrical, Transport and Storage (CO2 and H2) connections for the Low-Carbon Thermal portfolio across GB and Ireland. The team is responsible for developing and delivering the connections for Grid Code Compliant plant, ensuring that it remains connected for export to the Grid. We are also responsible for identifying additional revenue streams, such as Ancillary Services to the Grid.
The role of Senior Grid Services Engineer, is to provide technical expertise in relation to electrical grid connections for operational Thermal assets as well as a portfolio of development projects. It is also responsible for the gas connection contracts working with the Thermal business to ensure the Transport and Storage connection contracts will be fit for purpose. Some of the key areas that the successful candidate would be responsible for are as follows:
- Managing the gas and grid and CO2/H2 connection strategies for SSE Thermal projects and driving the delivery of connection requirements for our low carbon projects in GB and Ireland
- Management of the relationships, contracts and interfaces with Transmission/Distribution Companies through the Grid connection development and compliance processes for new-build and operational assets.
- Providing technical leadership within the team and the wider business and responsible for technical sign-off as part of our due diligence process
- Grid feasibility assessments, technical appraisal of prospective acquisitions and creative problem solving through the development process
- Assessing opportunities for and recommending additional revenue streams for operational site and development projects.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- A relevant Engineering Degree/Masters qualification and preferably hold a professional title (Engineering Chartership) - - Knowledge of the GB and Ireland transmission system, its operation and current/future challenges as well as technical knowledge and experience within the transmission / power generation industry
- Experience within a similar role, whether managing grid connections, gas connections or working to develop CO2 and H2 connections - whether within a TSO/DNO environment or a generator/developer environment.
- Strong analytical skills and a genuine passion for the energy industry with keen commercial awareness and understanding of the importance of engineering decisions in the context of the business
- A natural flair for leadership, readily sharing knowledge and skills as well as experience of working within diverse, multi-disciplinary teams to drive these projects to success
