With the signing of the Portfolio Management Agreement 2, we need to stand up the teams to deliver on our obligations within the new operating model. This is a senior role within the Portfolio team as we look to support the definition of the onward programme.

Job Title: Portfolio Architecture Lead

Location: Bristol

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3 Days a week on site

Please Note: Up to £75,000 Depending on Experience

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:
  • There is chance to be involved across the breadth of MBDA products, understanding capability and potential future developments. Through an understanding of the Customer Capability Needs, we look to build both the agreed forward roadmap but also understand potential changes to it and the associated impacts.
  • The chance to be involved from Customer Capability Need capture, influencing of domain strategy, capturing (and presenting) the formal response to these needs and influencing the future research to align with those plans means that this role provides a real breadth of activity across the business.
  • Leading a motivated team, we need someone who can work across the Domains and manage the collation of submissions for enhancing the roadmap. This includes undertaking the Functional Management of the team through activities such as managing team member development.
  • You needs to ensure that the core information that is captured is understood and correct, then be able to extract and summarise responses to queries based on our understanding.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure a common plan including external Customers, Sector Heads & Chief Engineers, Sales & Business Development, Equipment Teams, Centres of Excellence, Future Systems and of course the wider Portfolio team.
  • You will also be tasked with leading on one of the Weapon Family lead areas so require to stay updated on the products and programmes within their area.
  • The challenge is that we are creating an agile environment that is capable of responding to emerging customer needs at a much quicker pace and will be at the forefront of the new ways of working.

  • Team Leadership
  • It will need a driven individual who can demonstrate a breadth and depth of thought yet also influence across a wide array of stakeholders.
  • This role would be ideal for someone who is looking to obtain a role that has a balance of technical understanding as well as wider business engagement. It will provide a solid stepping stone as part of the overall career development for the successful candidate given the breadth of exposure they will receive.
  • Ownership of the problem space, capturing the core information and then extrapolating accordingly.
  • Managing the data collation, analysis and presentation of outcomes from the team.
  • The ability to forge the essential relationships and influence the stakeholders above.
  • The ability to work in an ambiguous space to form a coherent, collated strategy for the domain.
  • Knowledge and experience of Weapon or Missile Systems, awareness of Complex Weapons technologies / sub-systems and the MBDA organisation / stakeholders.
  • Ability to drive alignment of the Portfolio need with other business areas across MBDA UK.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills. The ability to extract information into succinct presentational material is key.
  • Someone who can embed the MBDA values as part of their daily role.
