About the Role
Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland.
Salary: £63,000 - £94,000 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available
Reporting to the Lead HVDC Engineering Manager and responsible for technical governance throughout development and execution of assigned projects (typical value £700M - £2000M).
Managing a multidisciplinary engineering team, and ensuring the requisite technical support and guidance is provided to the project team.
The HVDC Engineering Manager's role is central to drive technical governance, build engineering resilience and support the strategic projects which underpin our Net Zero ambitions.
We are seeking managers for our Converter Station and Cable System work packages.
The responsibilities of the HVDC Engineering Manager include:
- Safe Working - Promote and manage safety within project, including safety-in-design, implementation of CDM procedures and Principal Designer (PD) practice.
- Project Engineering - Preside over technical governance, including ownership and execution of the Design Management Plan (DMP). Manage safety and technical risks through identification, understanding, and controls to ensure positive project outcomes.
- Team Leadership - Line manage and lead a multidisciplinary team of staff engineers and specialist consultants. Implement robust stakeholder management plans to ensure continual, effective communication and reporting.
- Quality Assurance - Approve project quality plans and ensure adequate resources provided for quality interventions during design, manufacturing, installation and testing.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Degree in appropriate engineering discipline (preferably CEng).
- Proven track record in design/engineering management of large capital infrastructure projects from within a contractor or client organisation.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Aptitude for understanding complex technical issues, and translating them into clear and concise statements (with recommendation) to inform decision making by senior management.
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of electricity networks and industry with working level understanding of pertinent legislation, such as CDM and ESQC regulations.
