AWE is looking for a Electrical CAD Design Engineer to support with a wide range of challenging projects and electrical maintenance work within the Orion Laser Facility.

Working within our Engineering Team, as a Electrical CAD Design Engineer you will support the senior electrical and C&I engineers within the Technical Leads Team. You will identify solutions for electrical engineering projects to resolve system and equipment obsolescence in support of project delivery.

The purpose of this role is to produce electrical design and all associated design work in line with the qualified design process and most appropriate design codes.

When appropriate you will have the opportunity to provide support to the Electrical Maintenance Team for installation, repairs, replacements, electrical distribution testing and modifications. You may also, on occasion, support a variety of planned electrical maintenance activities. This role also gives excellent opportunities for career development into more senior engineering roles in the future.

Salary: £37,860 - £50,000

The Role?

Working within our Orion Engineering Team as an Electrical CAD Design Engineer you will;

  • Contribute to the delivery of projects by producing conceptual designs, detail designs and design specifications.
  • Deliver electrical/control designs, assisting the Technical Leads and Senior Engineers in scoping, planning, and estimating future activities.
  • Continued professional development and development under the guidance of a technical mentor.

Though not to be considered a check list, candidates would benefit from knowledge/experience of ANY of the following:

  • Experience using AutoCAD and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, essential.
  • Experience testing installations and systems (C&G 2391/ 2377).
  • Must be willing to obtain Design, Erection and Verification (2396) or equivalent.
  • Electrical Distribution knowledge / BS7671 18th Edition qualification.
  • Fault finding techniques and methodologies.
  • Supervisory experience desirable but not essential.
  • Previous experience in a building, plant or manufacturing environment.
  • Good appreciation of safe systems of work.
  • PLC and SCADA experience desired.

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • BEng Electrical Engineering or equivalent demonstrated work experience.

Or

  • A recognised relevant qualification such as City & Guilds, ONC or BTEC Level 4/5 plus suitable experience.
