Job Title: Principal Engineer – Electrical Engineering (C&I Process and Governance)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, Frimley, Portsmouth – we offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Salary: From £45,628– depending on skills and experience



What you’ll be doing:

Developing and managing requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform or programme
Understanding the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and supporting the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities
Producing documentation required to support the design review process, including: diagrams; technical specifications; supporting calculations; design evidence and justifications
Reviewing relevant supplier documentation and ensuring it is captured and recorded appropriately
Supporting the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development and project planning activities for various systems
Your skills and experiences:

Essential

Degree in Electronic or equivalent experience
Experience developing new processes from legacy processes and implementing best practice
Experience providing technical oversight for functional design for C&I solution for complex propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems
Experience providing technical specification of instrumentation for pressure/temperature/flow/level/analysis that is fit for purpose for specific process conditions
Experience reviewing the C&I design that satisfies a wide range of requirements such as; functional; safety; defence standards, British standards, naval standards, nuclear standards
Desirable

Good understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (i.e. RS-485, PROFIBUS)
History in IEC 61508 – Functional Safety (or similar) and production of supporting evidence to substantiate safety claims

The Platform Complex Systems team:

You will be working as a part of the very dynamic, currently expanding team that deals with 27 complex systems, providing the C&I strategy and governance for the whole boat. The team works closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including peers in other work streams, programmes, suppliers and MOD. You will have an opportunity to undertake ample training and develop your skills towards personal growth.

We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
