National Grid is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for our Electricity Transmission department. This is a hybrid role based out of either Warwick or London.
Key Accountabilities
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be involved in the product development process from ideation to launch, working closely with software engineers, data scientists, product managers, UI/UX designers, and key stakeholders across the organization to deliver the best digital experiences for our users. You will actively contribute to the success of the team by innovating, participating in technical discussions, and contributing to the development of products that will transform the organization.
Work closely with different disciplines and key stakeholders across the organization to deliver the best digital experiences for our user
Write readable, idiomatic, secure, and maintainable code
Implement data orchestration pipelines, data sourcing, cleansing, and QC processes
Build observable and resilient systems
Contribute to the engineering culture across the organisation (eg, innovation, process improvements, introduction of technologies, and mentorship)
Maintain appropriate documentation
Contribute to system design and architectural discussions
Constructively challenge to improve processes and ways of working
Support and mentor more junior engineers
About You
Backend and data software development lifecycle experience
Be driven to deliver software products that are of the highest quality and maintainability
Experience developing integrations across multiple systems and APIs.
Developed ETL/ELT workflows with a modern programming languages
Experience using SQL queries as well as writing and perfecting SQL queries in a
business environment with large-scale, complex datasets.
Ability to demonstrate having built solutions in cloud architectures
Experience working autonomously and managing ambiguity
Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
Experience working in an Agile / Scrum development process
A breadth of knowledge across multiple technologies with a deep understanding of the following (or transferable skills from similar): Azure, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake DB, and C#

A competitive salary between £65,000 – £80,000 – dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
