Electricity Transmission (ET) is navigating through an exciting time as we evolve to meet net-zero targets for 2050. Joining us as an Asset Management Engineer you will support the development of all aspects of the lifecycle for electricity transmission equipment in the required area of Substation HV Wound plant and associated equipment (e.g. SGTs, Reactors etc.) - Experience of drafting and maintaining technical specifications, technical design review, strategy development, technical policy, maintenance strategy and/or lifetime management of transmission oil filled EHV wound plant and its associated equipment.

Focusing on transmission level voltage equipment between 400kV and 33kV, working at the heart of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s Asset Management and Engineering department in Asset Operations to meet the aspirations of Net Zero and the delivery of the Great Grid Upgrade.

What you'll be doing


As an Asset Management Engineer in the Substation HV plant team, you’ll be responsible for driving the asset management of Substation HV Wound Plant and associated equipment.



Provide detailed, technical and asset management HV wound plant knowledge
Be involved across the whole lifecycle of the specific asset category.
Create and amend policies, procedures, technical specifications, work specifications, internal standards and technical guidance within area of expertise
Support the development of Technical Strategy and identify the need for appropriate intervention strategies across our HV plant portfolio including identify/support innovation opportunities
(Support the development of virtual team working to take advantage of technology and methodology developments within specific area of technical expertise
Undertake Type Registration activities in line with relevant procedures with limited supervision
Support external engagement - Understanding the Regulatory & Energy Industry models in which we operate is key
Represent National Grid on appropriate national and international committees influencing the direction of national policy, standards or specifications
Support other members of the team as required and support the development of apprentices and graduates
What you'll need


You will be a self-starter who is eager to develop their business and technical skills as well as the following:



Essential - Numerate degree, or equivalent experience and membership or the ability to be a member of relevant professional body
Desirable – Institute of Asset Management “Principles of Asset Management” certificate
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management.
Technical understanding of Substation HV Wound Plant
Ability to thrive when working to challenging deadlines.
Able to communicate issues associated within area of expertise in a clear and concise manner (both verbally and in writing) to internal and external stakeholders including, for example, industry peers, managers and directors.

A competitive salary of £51,899 - £65,675 - dependent on experience
£3,000 p.a. market supplement (paid monthly)
