About the role

Supporting the Operational Planning Engineer to optimise, prioritise, resource and schedule the Operational plan within current year timescales. You will support in optimising campaign time on sites, bundling work (outage & non outage) to ensure the most effective use of time for Operational Staff and zonal targets are met.

This full time, permanent position offers a mix of site (base location Iron Acton) and travel across the South West Zone on a regular basis as well as UK wide for training / meetings on an occasional basis.

What you'll do

  • Assist in the management of a rolling and dynamic plan for all operational, unlicensed and capital works within a specified zone.
  • Assist the Planning Engineer in all planning changes liaising with the Network Operations & Intelligence team for any System Operator review needed.
  • Work collaboratively with all National Grid delivery units to co-ordinate and manage conflict in the plan, including National support if deemed a higher priority.
  • Ensure regular contact with the team Operations Managers, Substation Supervisory Engineers and Project Leaders to review the current year delivery plans.
  • Help identify opportunities within the site campaign time for bundling outage and non-outage work to ensure optimum efficiency of time (Example - Property Services visits, Diesel Gen Op tests, CMS and Battery Maintenance).
  • Accountable for management of the ‘Planning Action’ work
  • Management of non-outage new work requests for the zone.
  • Manage non outage work ensuring it is planned in good time to ensure assets are kept fully compliant. Ensure resource is allocated, bundling work where possible and ensuring competency is factored into the resourcing.
  • Ensure work packs are built correctly and carry out deliverability checks.


About You

  • Minimum ONC (GNVQ level 3) in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering discipline or the relevant experience in a previous role.
  • Knowledge of the Planning Processes and Systems e.g. Ellipse, eNAMs, DWM, WORTS, and Single View of the Plan (SVOP) is ideal but not required
  • An understanding of Asset Maintenance policy and application
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise and manage conflicts in real time.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues and their resolution.
  • Able to allocate resource requirements in line with utilisation and commercial targets using standard job times.
  • Ability to bundle work during delivery including outage and non-outage.
  • Knowledge of NG Safety Rules, National Safety Instructions and Working Procedures
  • Current Full UK driving license
