The Emirates Air Line is the first urban cable car system in the UK. It is the latest river Thames crossing in East London and part of the regeneration scheme for the area.

Job description

The position available is for an experienced Operations and Maintenance Manager to join our small local team at the Emirates Air Line Cable Car (London, UK) as part of Doppelmayr, the world leader in ropeway technologies.
You will be working as part of a team so a positive attitude and good communication skills are essential. Our main asset are our employees and a good and open working environment is an essential part of it. The successful candidate will be in charge of managing various shifts and must enjoy being hands-on.

Some of the core responsibilities are:

  • Monitoring the safe day to day operations and maintenance of the ropeway, ensuring adequate reporting to Stakeholders.
  • Follow and administer operational procedures, to ensure the safety of passengers and employees, maintaining and compiling the corresponding operational records.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of operational and maintenance events and their necessary trainings with the respective Area Managers.
  • Assist with investigating and rectifying mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Assist managing various aspects of the O&M program, HR and PR.
  • Specific industry related training will be provided


The position requires an experienced mechanical/electrical/civil engineer, with the following personal characteristics:

  • In-depth technical training and mechanical, hydraulic or electrical work experience, with the clear ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in managing and supervising teams of employees.
  • Hands on and proactive, working with technicians and operators in their duties as and when needed.
  • Computer literate (MS-Office and web based software and apps).
  • Team worker with excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Knowledge of German language is not a requirement, but will be positively evaluated.
