Setting and assuring modern technical standards, you'll enjoy significant influence throughout the largest estates change programme in Government - and beyond.

At HMRC, we’re on an exciting journey of transformation. Redesigning how we work, we’re embracing digital technology and bringing all our people together in 13 large Regional Centres. Our Estates Directorate is at the very heart of our work to build a new modern, digitally enabled Estate. It’s one of the most exciting and innovative places to work within the civil service today.

An inspiring and engaging Head of Engineering, you’ll be a pivotal member of our senior leadership team. We will look to you to set and assure strategic engineering and technical standards and processes across HMRC. With considerable autonomy, you will be instrumental to keeping our people safe and delivering the best value for money possible. A champion of best practice, you’ll advise facilities management and support services staff, and manage professional services contractors. Crucially, you’ll inform major decisions about HMRC’s future. The scope to make an impact will be large, and your influence will reach across Government.

A highly experienced engineering professional, you will ideally be a member of a recognised body such as IMechE, IET or CIBSE. You’ll certainly bring to the role a proven track record in the management of estates, together with a demonstrable ability to lead within an engineering environment. Your knowledge spans safety, fire and environmental regulations. You have what it takes to lead from an engineering perspective across building services, physical security, health and safety, sustainability, compliance, BIM and technical assurance.

You’ll be at the heart of a team that aims to be the best Estates department in Government. Together, we will provide first class buildings and excellent services for our customers. We’ll create environments in which people want to work, and which enable them to be the best they can be. As well as the rewarding nature of our mission, and impressive civil service benefits, we offer clear and defined career pathways with focussed support for ongoing learning and development.
