At SSE, we believe in making a difference. We have announced investment of over £1bn in GB and Irish energy markets, in the past year alone, and employ over 19,000 people across Great Britain and Ireland, to ensure we can provide the energy that people need, in a reliable and sustainable way.
We have an opportunity for a Safety Officer to join our team based at Ferrybridge Power Station. You will provide safety guidance and support for all works associated with the decommissioning and remediation of the Ferrybridge site through to a ‘redeployment ready’ state. You’ll support and liaise with the Generation Development team who will manage the demolition activity within the CDM area.
You’ll be responsible for developing the safety and health aspects of the Safety Health and Environment (SHE) plan external to the CDM area and ensuring that all safety aspects are adhered to. As the focal point for SHE investigations you’ll support the demolition team and all site projects by providing Health and Safety expertise through on site monitoring, auditing and reporting on all SHE related activities. You’ll work with key stakeholders to create and maintain a positive site safety culture commensurate with the SSE Safety Family ethos.
With a recognised safety qualification, you should have proven experience delivering a safe and successful major project. You’ll possess a sound knowledge of current UK SHE legislation, applicable to both the Power Generation industry and decommissioning processes.
Trained and experienced in Safety Incident Management and Investigation, you should demonstrate strong risk awareness with the ability to communicate with confidence and credibility across all functions of the organisation.
You’ll possess excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills with the ability to deliver under pressure whilst building relationships with multiple stakeholders. You’ll act as the focal point and leader for the site first aid team.
