Would you like to work within our Underwater Systems (UWS) team, delivering the physical design solution across multiple submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer at our site in Frimley or Weymouth.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical support to the UWS Outboard Engineering Manager and the platform build team. More specifically, you will be responsible for supporting the design, development and resolution of technical issues relating to the installation of the arrays onto submarines.
This role will provide you with the chance to gain exposure to the whole boat, across a number of in-service and future submarine programmes. You will be fully supported in your professional development with the chance for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.
Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Engineer will involve:
Supporting qualification and acceptance activities undertaken by the supplier
Ensuring design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management toolset and where appropriate, endorsed by the customer
Assisting with the reviewing of supplier-produced documentation and ensuring that the documentation is captured in the appropriate document management system and recorded in any project register
Supporting the generation of installation guidance information, through liaison with subcontractors and the shipbuilder for the Outboard Sonar Array items on all platforms
Your skills and qualifications as a Mechanical Engineer:
Degree or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline
Good understanding and knowledge of mechanical principles
Experience of resolution of problems encountered during manufacturing/installation activities
Experience or knowledge of shipbuilder or naval dockyard working practices would be beneficial
Understanding of formal equipment qualification
Knowledge of the engineering lifecycle

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
