Principal Engineer (Product Environmental)
Principal Engineer (Product Environmental)
Would you like to provide environmental expertise and advice to one of the most complex engineering programmes currently underway in the UK? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Product Environmental) to join our team in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
As a Principal Engineer (Product Environmental) you will be responsible for producing and reporting the Environmental Case, in order to mitigate the effects the submarines have on the environment in which they operate, throughout their full lifecycle.
This is an area of our business which is at the forefront of driving and implementing environmental considerations within the future submarines project, and pioneers a "Design for the Environment", approach to engineering design. You will have a real impact on the way the submarines are designed and built, to ensure they have as little impact on the environment as possible and the environmental footplate is understood.
You will also monitor and keep abreast of any related environmental legislation, including pollution prevention for oils, packaging, and waste to ensure that the submarine is safe and legal to own and operate, as well as other environmental considerations.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Product Environmental) will involve:
Understanding customer requirements and implementing 'Design for Environment' processes for the activities necessary to meet them
Conducting and reporting environmental assessments throughout the stages of the engineering life cycle
Liaising and coordinating with stakeholders, and working in close collaboration with the end customer
Developing and authoring Environmental Case Reports as appropriate to meet programme needs
Monitoring and managing evidence to support the Environmental Case
Reviewing environmental documentation to ensure evidence given is adequate
Keeping abreast of current, new, and emerging environmental legislation
Provide support as required to engineering working groups
Ensuring environmental activities are aligned with the functional safety management frameworks
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer (Product Environmental):
Degree qualification (or equivalent) in relevant environmental or scientific discipline and experience in an environmental field
Experience of working with environmental management systems
Experience writing technical reports and documenting evidence to support the production of Environmental Cases
Experience of implementing current and emerging environmental legislation
Demonstrable experience in collating, analysing, and presenting environmental arguments in concise reports
Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA)
Completion of IEMA Auditor course
What we're looking for in you:
We are looking for you to be an accomplished environmental engineer with a passion for environmental issues. You must also be a strong communicator, and comfortable presenting technical arguments and reports to various stakeholders.
