Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical

Would you like to play a key role in the electrical test and commissioning activities of multiple advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical, you will be working through the test and commissioning processes across electrical systems associated within the nuclear reactor area, in order to set to work Reactor Electrical Systems on the Submarine.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in the test and commissioning of a nuclear submarine from build process through to operational at sea.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Commissioning Engineer - Reactor Electrical will involve:

Working through the test specifications and forms to ensure compliance with each aspect of the test procedure, ensuring fit for purpose

Being responsible for the commissioning, trials, operation and setting to work of systems and equipment as appropriate

Providing a support service to boat builds, the MoD and commercial customers as appropriate either on-site or off-site.

Being responsible for research and compilation of appropriate documentation around reactor systems

Representing the company on contractor sea trials and other outworking requirements, including guarantee periods as applicable.

Ensuring safe and efficient working practices at all times, including taking indirect responsibility for less senior member of the team around you

Overseeing work of sub- contractors, involving input into risk assessments, method statements, security arrangements and monitoring of work

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Previous test and commissioning experience with Electrical systems, or alternatively experience of the setting to work of Electrical systems

Awareness and experience of authorised documentation or test standards

HNC/HND in an engineering discipline, or equivalent qualification or experience in an electrical engineering role

Desirable:

Submarine engineering experience, ideally from a fit, re-fit, commissioning, or decommissioning standpoint

Experience of nuclear reactor systems engineering

Cat A or Cat B Nuclear Watchkeeper in the Royal Navy

You will work with a good degree of autonomy, working without immediate supervision to take ownership for your own deliverables, whilst reporting into a Commissioning Project Leader. You will be an excellent communicator, able to interface between varying internal and external stakeholders.

Salary: £29,870+
