At SSE we believe in making a difference. Our job is to provide the energy people need in a reliable and sustainable way. That's why we've invested over £1 billion in UK infrastructure in the past year alone, paid £1 billion in taxes since 2011, employ over 19,000 people, and we’re ranked the largest FTSE 100 company from revenues derived solely in the UK and Ireland.

Our Engineering Centre provides effective long-term asset management and investment planning capability across SSE’s existing Generation fleet as well as providing technical expertise for the design development and construction of future generation plant from our development portfolio where we act as Design and Technical Authority.

We are currently developing a number of Offshore Wind Projects and will be required to provide an engineering capability to support the portfolio. This requires a strengthening of our existing resource base to ensure appropriate engineering skills and capabilities are secured in order to successfully respond to an increasing effort required in this area.

You will play a pivotal role in developing this capability and a key responsibility will be to develop the people, systems and processes required and have the responsibility for the management of a team of Lead Design Engineers and Design Development Engineers acting as Design Authority.

The team is responsible for all aspects of Design and Engineering including design development strategy, design requirements management, concept and final design solutions, design specifications and verification and validation to ensure compliance with SSE’s Large Capital Projects Governance Framework.

You will develop and implement resource management plans and appropriate communication and reporting requirements across a portfolio of projects to provide progress updates and the escalation of issues.

To be successful you will have a track record of manging engineering for large infrastructure projects together with a commercial acumen to ensure design solutions are cost effective and meet the business need.

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills are essential as is the ability to build and maintain strong engagement with a broad range of stakeholders. Experience of line management is essential to ensure you can coach, develop and mentor your team.

You will be degree educated in either Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Marine engineering and have achieved Chartered status. Experience in managing or supervising an engineering team, either in Onshore or Offshore wind, Marine or Oil and Gas is essential.

Although office based you will make frequent site visits and enjoy immense variety that few others could offer due to our unique portfolio of large scale development opportunities that we are actively pursuing and the diverse range of civil assets we already operate.

There may be the opportunity to offer flexible working patterns including later/ earlier finish times or part time working for this role.
