Would you like to design and deploy virtualised computing infrastructure to a highly complex and unique platform? BAE Systems is currently recruiting for a Virtualisation Lead to join the team in Ash Vale, Surrey.

As a Virtualisation Lead you will play a key role in designing computing infrastructure on which the Royal Navy's submarine combat system is hosted. This includes the maintenance of networks on in-service submarines as well as leading innovation to develop virtualisation technology which will be used in future classes of submarines. You will also be working closely with commercial suppliers on their future technology roadmaps with a view to ensuring BAE Systems stays ahead of the curve in technology development.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your virtualisation knowledge in a truly unique environment. BAE Systems offer a flexible working environment along with career progression as well as a competitive reward package and wider benefits.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Employing a systems engineering approach to the design of virtualised computing infrastructure to host combat systems on the Royal Navy's submarines. You will be gathering customer requirements and liaising with systems technical authorities to produce systems designs following the engineering life cycle management principles through to delivery.

Maintaining existing deployed systems and ensuring the ongoing functionality and safety of virtualised infrastructure currently deployed on submarine platforms. This will include software upgrade releases using new technology and new innovation.

Leading design work for future submarine platforms. Producing innovative concept designs based on your knowledge of future technology developments; working closely with commercial suppliers to gain insight into technology roadmaps.

Producing rigorous technical documentation to ensure defence standards and engineering processes are adhered to.

We are looking for you to have the following skills and experience:

Experience in the design and deployment of virtualised infrastructure

Knowledge of high availability systems and DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler)

Knowledge and experience of networking, switching protocols and storage

While not essential, the following experience would be useful:

Experience using Enterprise Architect

Experience of the design, development, test and qualification of products for use in a military deployed environment

We also look for you to have the following characteristics:

You will be self-motivated and organised with an innovative approach to problem solving and a focus on delivery. Your strong communication skills will enable you to interface and present to others effectively, as well as influence stakeholders.
