Would you like to play a key role working with the design and development of armoured fighting vehicles? We currently have a vacancy for an Electrical Designer at our site in Washington.

As an Electrical Designer, you will be reporting to the Electrical Design Lead supporting the system level electrical design activities required to integrate third party subsystems into military armoured fighting vehicles. You will also be responsible for attending formal design reviews and liaising with external stakeholders, such as suppliers and the customer.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a large defence contract of national importance, with the chance to work with leading defence technology.

Your main responsibilities as an Electrical Designer will involve:

The development of design material, drawings and engineering calculations for the electrical installation of armoured fighting vehicle subsystems including:

Design specifications

System wiring diagrams

Harness diagrams and pin-out

Electrical installation drawings

Generating and maintaining power budgets for 28V DC vehicle subsystems

Developing vehicle-based electrical power generation and distribution

The application of defence standards for design of electrical equipment; particularly Def Stan 61-5 and Def Stan 59-411

Preparation of harness design specifications, component selection and supplier liaison

The design and specification of fault tolerant equipment with reversionary modes of operation

Requirements management and the production of technical specifications

Developing test procedures and providing support to equipment trials

Your skills and qualifications as an Electrical Designer:


Experience of designing DC electrical power systems in one of the following industries:

automotive/ rail/ military vehicles/ similar industry

Experience of structured design processes including formal design reviews

Preparation of technical design material including equipment specifications, schematics and drawings

HNC in electrical engineering or closely related discipline

Knowledge of software design tools such as: Unigraphics NX, GTX ImageCAD or Visio to produce layout schematics and electrical diagrams


Knowledge and application of appropriate Defence Standards for military vehicles

What we're looking for in you:

You must be able to work well as part of a team with minimal supervision, alongside a proactive approach to problem solving. You must also possess good communication, skills both written and verbal.

Occasional travel will be required within this role.

Salary: £34,275+ commensurate with skills and experience
