Consultant Engineer - Dive Systems
Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of diving systems for in-service submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Consultant Engineer (In-Service Support) at our site in either Filton or Barrow.
As a Consultant Engineer (In-Service Support), you will be working as part of Submarine Design Services (SDS) team, providing support to in-service submarines and advice to the MoD design authority. You will also be responsible for carrying out technical investigations in relation to diving systems and their interfaces with the platform systems and equipment.
This role will provide you with the chance to influence the design of diving systems as well as the opportunity to take part in sea trials. You will gain good exposure to a number of senior stakeholders, including the customer.
Your main responsibilities as a Consultant Engineer - Dive Systems will involve:
Providing authoritative advice on submarine mechanical and electrical systems in support of a classified operational capability as fitted to in-service submarines
Leading design review activities, as well as articulating and presenting complex technical arguments clearly, logically and simply
Assessing safety implications of events and material state changes that have occurred on the systems that comprise the capability and provide input to the in-service safety case
Producing supporting calculations and undertaking design reviews to support the issue of technical advice
Providing technical expertise on the design, maintenance and operation of the gaseous oxygen system
Supporting the MoD customer and stakeholder community to enable enterprise delivery of safe, available and capable submarines in-service
Providing technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to engineers within the SDS team
Your skills and qualifications as a Consultant Engineer - Dive Systems:
Operation or design of diving chamber systems experience
Background in mechanical/ electrical engineering with ability to read complex diagrams and schematics
Technical report writing experience
Knowledge of oxygen systems

Location: Barrow (Cumbria) or Filton (Bristol)

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
