If you're looking for the perfect environment for your broad engineering and asset management experience, Network Rail have the ideal role for you.

Network Rail owns, manages and develops Britain’s railway – the 20,000 miles of track, 40,000 bridges and viaducts, and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations (the largest of which we also run). In partnership with train operators we help people take more than 1.6bn journeys by rail every year - double the number of 1996 - and move hundreds of millions of tonnes of freight, saving almost 8m lorry journeys. We are also the largest energy distributor in the UK, using over 3500GWh every year with an annual bill of over £350 million.

Our Safety, Technical & Engineering (STE) Group are the people that provide a ‘Centre of Expertise' that ensures we deliver high quality safety, technical and engineering leadership to the business. So if you're looking for more scope and challenge for your career, read on.

The electrification part of STE is made up of the Power Distribution, Contact Systems and Power Systems teams. In addition to acting as the ‘Technical Authority’, through the setting of asset management and system design strategy, policy and standards, they provide the technical leadership to strategic programmes such as National SCADA Renewal and Electrical Safety & Delivery (ESD), the aim of which is to improve compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations (EaWR) 1989 and deliver a step change in the way we manage electrical safety. You’ll have every opportunity to gain exposure to many different disciplines and functions.

Your focus will be on providing expert technical engineering input, advice and support on electrification matters to all parts of the business. Supporting the route businesses with technical investigations will be important too, as will managing the engineering acceptance of products and materials, supporting the close-out of internal and external recommendations and audit actions, and carrying out power supply capacity assessments. Undertaking engineering verification activities, identifying opportunities for technical and business improvement and innovation and developing business cases and investment papers – all are aspects of this role. We’ll also rely on you to help develop technical strategy within your specialist subject area, aligned to asset management policy. Along the way, you’ll get to work with a variety of experts, both internal and external, researching and responding to changes in working requirements and practice – you’ll do all of this, and more.
