Technologist- Active Vehicle Control (AVC)
Would you like to play a key part in the delivery of the steering, diving and buoyancy on board the UK's most advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Technologist- Active Vehicle Control (AVC) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Technologist, you will be responsible for delivering for the steering, diving and buoyancy, by working within a wider multidiscipline team with mechanical, safety and naval architects. You will be the subject matter expert and provide technical leadership, working on the processes and procedures implemented.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a variety of project within a unique environment, opening door for progression onto future projects.
Your main responsibilities as a Technologist- Active Vehicle Control (AVC) will involve:
Writing of technical documentation, such as management plans, processes and strategies
Preparing design calculations to demonstrate designs meet performance requirements
Undertaking technical development studies to verify compliance with design requirements
Working across project groups to ensure designs meet the required operability, safety, security and supportability requirements
Preparing test plans, attending equipment factory acceptance tests and reviewing test evidence and reports
Supporting Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) development techniques and methodologies
Development Phase of the AVC product lifecycle in order to deliver a software specification for the AVC Duty Control System
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Experience of Instrumentation and/ or control system design or manufacture within a Submarine, Marine, Nuclear or defence environment
Understanding of Safety Integrity Levels and ARP4754A, BS EN 61508 or 61511
Experience writing technical reports
Desirable:
Chartered Engineer or working towards
An understanding of instrumentation and control system theory
An understanding of electrical circuit design & associated EMC precautions
Knowledge and experience in defence standards, whilst not essential, would be an advantage
Demonstrable experience of system or equipment design
