The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced aerospace qualified L3 NDT Engineer.  Experience of digital/real-time radiography preferred, but not essential.  Working in a fully equipped and specialised laboratory, you will be the Company appointed NDT Level 3 responsible for NDT activities within MBDA(UK) and for surveillance, support and audit of NDT sub-contractors in the UK and abroad.  This technical and practical role will put you at the forefront of materials assessment technology, and there will be opportunities for national and international travel supporting both customers and suppliers.
 
The Role
  • Responsible Aero Level 3 for NDT activities within MBDA UK and for surveillance, support and audit of NDT sub-contractors in the UK and abroad.
  • Provision of practical Aero L2 NDT to achieve business requirements. Develop efficient and effective methods of NDT inspection for both in-house and on-site inspections
  • Develop efficient, effective and possibly novel methods of NDT inspection for both in-house and on-site inspections and for new components and novel materials.
  • Provide NDT support and advice to all members of the Materials Laboratory for both Project and research programmes, including urgent practical inspections in support of the Environmental Engineering Department
  • Production & approval of NDT procedures and techniques, including approval of processes for MBDA UK, including Bolton PCB X-Ray Facility
  • Provision of NDT advice to the customer
  • Provide support and advice on radiation matters throughout the Company and, as Radiation Protection Supervisor,liaise with/refer to Radiation Protection Advisers where appropriate
  • Health and safety adhering to local lab and NDT requirements Safety Management - Service NDT facilities at Stevenage, Henlow, & Bolton
  • Provide NDT support to the local explosives magazine

What are we looking for?
  • You will ideally be qualified to, as a minimum, NDT L3 (Aerospace) in Ultrasonics and Radiography
  • You hold current practical NDT L2 (Aerospace) qualifications in Radiography Techniques, Ultrasonic Techniques, Penetrant Flaw Detection, Magnetic Flaw Detection and Eddy Current and are prepared to undertake local inspections.
  • Experience in all areas of NDT with particular emphasis on the NDT examination of composites, castings and electronic components
  • Experience in real time and computed tomography (CT) radiographic examinations  
  • Able to work in a practical lab based environment both “hands-on” or in a more advisory role being able to provide technical support to others. 
  • Demonstrated capability for interfacing with customers and internal clients, ideally military.
  • Good commercial and financial understanding, including negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with a proven record in conducting successful technical investigations
  • Highly developed communication skills: able to communicate verbally and in writing at Board level as well as at operator level.
  • Well-developed planning and organisation skills and project management expertise.
  • Able to develop links with other technical specialists, including outside MBDA, and to network effectively on an international basis.
  • Knowledge and experience of Military Standards eg Def. Stan. 07-85 an advantage
