Our Renewables business is responsible for the development, construction and operation of SSE's renewable portfolio, including onshore and offshore wind and hydro. An opportunity has arisen for an Offshore Wind Asset Performance Engineer to join our renewable operations team in Lowestoft.

Reporting to the Offshore Maintenance Team Lead, you will be responsible for monitoring the performance and maintenance of the offshore wind sites. Using SCADA systems alongside internally developed data systems you will be responsible for diagnosing any faults as they arise and support problem solving activities in all areas of the wind farm, from root cause analysis to satisfactory rectification.

The role will include building and documenting a knowledge base of technical information to assist with engineering problem solving ands be a key input in fault and analysis and rectification, experience in software including Matlab, MS VBA and SQL skills would be a distinct advantage. You will assist with the preparation of regular reporting of site performance, including weekly and monthly availability analysis using the reporting tools and output to help drive overall site operational efficiency improvements at all levels.

Working closely with specialist contractors you will be involved in onsite monitoring and the inspection of assets and selected maintenance work scopes ensuring SSE safety rules and operational procedures are followed at all times. It is imperative you have a high regard for safe working and embed yourself in the SSE safety culture.

This position will be initially focused on the offshore project but there will also be significant opportunities for input into new development sites and for co ordination with the Onshore Wind team.
To be successful you will hold an Engineering qualification preferably to degree level. You should have experience working in a mechanical and/or electrical systems environment and a good understanding of data analysis and interpretation; a working knowledge of SCADA system operation, data extraction and Matlab data analysis would be advantageous. In addition, you will preferably  have experience of turbine and offshore engineering and an understanding of structural integrity monitoring. Wind industry experience is preferred but not essential.
To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, you should have outstanding communication skills, with a passion for customer service and continuous improvement. You’ll liaise with various stakeholders, both internal and external, and so an ability to form positive working relationships is a must. Your IT skills will be of a good standard, with particular strength in Microsoft Office applications.
