Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design)

Would you like to play a safety critical role working with the Nuclear Facility Design Authority (NFDA) supporting various submarine projects? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design), you will be producing, managing and developing nuclear facilities safety documentation to demonstrate justification of facilities, such as industrial buildings, clean rooms, and dock systems.

This role will offer good exposure to a variety of challenging projects across the programme and interaction with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Nuclear Facility Design) will involve:

Producing nuclear facilities safety documentation to demonstrate justification of facilities

Producing Scope of Works for design consultants and other relevant design documentation and producing and manage requirements capture documentation

Producing reports relating to the assessment of structural and mechanical adequacy

Supporting in the management of Consultant Engineers employed in the design of the new facilities, including reviewing and reporting on design deliverables

Supporting in the management of the NFDA workload and junior staff members, as required

Managing key stakeholders throughout the project, including through requirements capture stages

Providing technical and engineering advice and articulating and presenting technical arguments clearly, logically and simply

Discussing and articulating facility substantiation with Regulators during inspections

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

HNC/HND Qualified or equivalent experience

Experience in facilities design within a Structural, Electrical or Mechanical discipline

Strong IT Skills including MS Project, word, excel, AutoCAD

Stakeholder management experience

Demonstrated experience in facilities safety justification and safety document production

Desirable:

Chartered Engineer status or membership of professional engineering body, such as IMechE

Recognised qualification in a branch of nuclear safety engineering

Reliability qualification or knowledge

Experience In the design and construction of major nuclear related facilities project

Demonstrated experience in facilities safety justification and safety document production
