Senior Engineering Manager (Materials Technology)

Would you like to lead a team of scientists and engineers renowned for their capabilities in material science and research? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineering Manager at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be leading various teams of engineers and scientists across areas such as: metallurgy, weld engineering, non-destructive examination (NDE) research and material science. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of materials-related activities to cost, quality and timescales across advanced submarine platforms.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to provide leadership, guidance and support to a range of technical specialists working with cutting edge technology. The role is challenging and will give you exposure to a broad range of stakeholders.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineering Manager will involve:

Ensuring all material is qualified for use on board the submarine

Control Account Management for material technology submarine programmes, research & technology and external commercial contracts

Capability management; ensuring we have the availability of the resources (people and materials) to meet current and future demands of the business.

The development and management of the Materials Technology Research & Technology strategy and delivery of the supporting programme of work

Supporting the identification, development and implementation of new and emerging technologies as part of a continuous programme of product development

Maintaining and developing the standards, process and procedures to ensure the safe and competent use of materials in the construction of the product

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Engineering Manager:

Essential:

Experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams of engineers and or scientists

Demonstrable knowledge and experience of budgetary control

Degree qualified within STEM discipline or equivalent qualification or experience

Desirable:

Experience of producing technical bids and proposals

Project Management; delivering projects in a technical environment

Experience in the production of technical reports, laboratory practices and standards

Experience in one or more of the following:

-Material Science

-Weld Engineering

-Metallurgy

-Material Assessment
