Quality Engineer – Supplier Technical Assist

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, energetic and results driven Quality Engineer – Supplier Technical Assist, reporting to the Head of Quality, Systems & Engineering.

You will be responsible for the pro-active development of selected suppliers, delivering measurable improvement in product Quality performance through strong working relationships, the application of well-formed development plans and product manufacturing controls.

A ‘Can do, Will do’ attitude will be essential, as will the ability to form credible relationships across Engineering, Purchasing and Quality Control functions.

Key Accountabilities/Duties

• Actively involved in strengthening correlation between design intent and supplier activity, collaboratively developing product specifications aligned with process capability.

• Providing technical support in the development of our suppliers, generating and implementing control plans and aligning product approval methodologies to ensure the rapid processing of compliant products.

• Providing a Quality function in the auditing, approval and performance assessment of existing and new suppliers.

• Responsible for the maintenance, update and communication (internally and externally) of supply Quality KPI’s while maintaining system integrity with colleagues.

• Driving the supply base for rapid, robust responses to issue management, utilising 8D principles as a basis for effective problem resolution and able to facilitate the resolution of complex, cross functional issues.

• Ensure that suppliers continue to demonstrate compliance with Quality requirements, extending past the pure manufacture of products and to include evidencing process controls and product conformity.

The ideal candidate will be able to interpret engineering drawing requirements (GD&T), have experience in the manufacture of low volume, high accuracy, high complexity products, and have already gained a substantial level of expertise in the practical application of Quality tools within the supply chain (8D, Process Mapping, Control Plans etc)

Knowledge of working within Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 or similar), risk analysis and the use of ERP systems (SAP) would be beneficial.

Flexibility in hours and an ability to build strong relationships as a team player are required with experience in delivering high quality work to deadlines. Initiative, diplomacy and self-confidence are all considered as important personal characteristics in this role.
