Principal Engineer- Site Safety Case

Would you like to play a safety critical role within nuclear safety and regulations? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer- Site Safety Case at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Engineer- Site Safety Case, you will be working with the Nuclear Safety Case team, responsible for supporting the production of Site Nuclear Safety Case documentation. You will be liaising with various internal and external stakeholders for the implementation of Safety Case Requirements.

This role will provide you with an exciting opportunity to make a difference within a wide range of nuclear projects, on the sites responsible for the UK's most advanced submarine platforms.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer- Site Safety Case will involve:

Providing written justification and analysis to support the Nuclear Site Safety Case

Producing safety analysis documentation, including HAZOP, ALARP, HAZID, PSA, QRA

Identifying hazards by use of appropriate techniques

Leading and supervising junior team members for the undertaking of Safety case work

Undertaking probabilistic and/or deterministic safety analyses

Authoring safety reports documenting clear and concise arguments and technical content to form a 'fit for purpose' safety case

Providing risk assessments including identification of engineering and administrative controls

Liaising with operations and the Facility Design Authority to inform the production of safety analysis and the implementation of safety case requirements

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer- Site Safety Case will include:

Essential:

Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline

Chartered engineer (or actively working toward this)

Practical experience of a structured approach to safety case analysis and production in a high hazard industry

Experience using structured methodologies around safety cases

Experience of producing safety case documentation

Desirable:

A sound understanding of the structure of modern standards nuclear safety cases, including Deterministic and Probabilistic Safety Assessment and engineering substantiation

Practical experience in undertaking and documenting safety analyses

Knowledge of the ALARP principle and its application

Experience of leading teams
