Description

With the launch of our new research vessel, the RRS Sir David Attenborough, BAS are looking for an Electronics Engineers to support our on-going science on our existing vessel the RRS James Clark Ross, while the RRS Sir David Attenborough is getting into service.

This role will be split between time in Cambridge, and will involve periods at sea on our research vessels or in polar regions. You will be involved in providing engineering support and projects to the scientific and operational departments in the UK, and supporting scientific cruises on board our vessels and in polar regions.

You will have broad, practical, electronic experience with a relevant HNC or higher qualification. With experience of design software and demonstrable team-working skills you will be able to manage your time well and communicate to a range of audiences.

Purpose

To support scientific cruises on board research ships, develop and maintain scientific or operational electronic based systems.

Qualification

Relevant HNC or higher. Experience use of design software.

Duties

- Provide engineering support and projects to the scientific and operational departments in the UK, and users on board ships and in polar regions.

- To maintain scientific or operational electronic, electrical or mechanical systems, including those on board ship or at remote polar locations.

- To develop scientific or operational electronic and electrical systems.

- Working with and supporting engineering colleagues, delivering projects and tasks in a professional manner.

- Other duties as appropriate.
