Would you like to play a key role in design and development activities working across a number Royal Navy warship programmes? We currently have a vacancy for a Design Engineer at our site in Portsmouth.
As a Design Engineer, you will be working as a part of a large team of design engineers, specifically within the Constructive section of Design Services. You will be responsible for producing design and installation solutions across the whole boat structure, involving a number of engineering disciplines.
This role will provide you with the chance to work within an expanding team across a number of high profile Royal Navy warship programmes.
Your main responsibilities as a Design Engineer will involve:
Producing and developing designs in line with specifications using tools such as AutoCAD Inventor and Foran; carrying out detail design appraisals to ensure all standards are maintained, taking due cognisance of Designing for Production
Carrying out investigations into operational problems or developments
Conducting ship visits to validate the current configuration of the structure, material state and layout
Supporting the development of best practice to increase the capability, performance of tools and processes
Keeping up-to-date in relevant technical areas to develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (including seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices)
Providing help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development
Taking part in validation and acceptance activities
Your skills and qualifications as a Design Engineer:
Engineering background within a marine environment or similar complex engineering environment
Experience using CAD
ONC/NVQ or equivalent qualification or experience
Hull, Outfit or Seating knowledge/ experience

You must possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders at all levels. You must also have the ability to influence others and provide effective solutions when dealing with conflicting requirements.
