Principal Engineer - Combat Systems Integration and Testing

Would you like to work within design proving of cutting edge systems equipment for nuclear submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Combat Systems Integration and Testing) at our site in Ash Vale.

As a Principal Engineer you will be working on the integration and testing of combat systems, a business area that continues to grow to meet the demands of design, development and supply of technology leading complex systems into the in-service and future submarine programmes.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on the most cutting edge defence technologies, opening opportunities for progression within the immediate team, as well as the wider Complex Systems and Support business area.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer will involve:

Undertaking design proving and integration trials on cutting edge in-build and in-service submarine combat systems

Taking overall responsibility for specific trials including planning, organising, running, analysing and writing up

Leading, mentoring and supporting other members of the Test and Integration team in your area of specialty when required

Capturing requirements from key stakeholders

Utilising detailed requirement set to develop a suite of integrated and system level verification requirements tests

Updating test documentation, processes and tools, as complex systems and capability requirements evolve

Performing platform based trials on the submarine

Ensuring all work is performing in accordance to BAE Systems' SHE and local processes and policies

Your skills and qualifications:


Understanding of the qualification process and integration testing of complex electronic systems

Experience of fault finding and investigation on complex systems

Strong Microsoft Office skills


Degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline

Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status

Maritime industry or military products experience

Experience of DOORS for requirements capture

Knowledge of Interface standards, including RS 422 / 485 / 232 and 1553 databus

Understanding of Automated test methods and solutions

Maritime Submarines - Combat Systems
