Deputy Chief Engineer

Would you like to play a leading role overseeing the design and delivery of an advanced submarine platform? We currently have a vacancy for a Deputy Chief Engineer at our site in Barrow.

As a Deputy Chief Engineer, you will be reporting to the Chief Engineer, responsible for all aspects associated with the delivery and execution of the Submarine Engineering Plan and the delivery of related data and outputs to support the programme, to quality, cost and schedule. You will have complete decision-making authority for the technical aspects of the engineering solution.

This role will provide you with the opportunity and responsibility for overseeing a large team, alongside exposure to a wide range of programme stakeholders. You will be fully supported in your professional development with the chance for excellent career opportunities in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a Deputy Chief Engineer will involve:

Being directly responsible for the line management (and resultant PDRs) of a number of mechanical and hull/outfit engineering staff members at Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) level

Chairing technical reviews and making technical decisions

Agreeing schedule, scoping and costing changes to the project with respect to engineering

Being responsible for the delivery of the relevant aspects of the Whole Boat, Platform and Secondary Propulsion Engineering Programme

Acting as the focal interface with the Director Nuclear Propulsion Organisation and the Primary Technical Authority for all functional Secondary Propulsion issues

Being responsible as the Whole Boat Technical Authority lead with regards to the primary to secondary propulsion systems interfaces and concurrence of engineering designs

Your skills and qualifications as a Deputy Chief Engineer:

Essential:

Degree qualified/ Chartered or an equivalent qualification or experience

Demonstrable experience in technical design within a mechanical/ structural or similar discipline

Demonstrable experience of people management and leading teams

Desirable:

Knowledge of nuclear propulsion plants

Experience of operating with Rolls Royce
