Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of submarine combat systems? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager working out of Frimley, Weymouth or Portsmouth. Travel will be required between sites.
As an Engineering Manager, you will working on a new project and will be at the forefront of design definition, through project implementation to delivery and acceptance. You will enjoy high visibility within the Combat System Department.
This role will provide you with multiple opportunities within the rapidly expanding BAE Systems Submarines Combat Systems business and across the rest of the Submarines business / wider BAE Systems.
Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:
Overseeing the management and integration of multi-disciplined engineering teams, to define and deliver software intensive systems; leading engineering resources, delivering packages of work/services, involving new products and/or complex upgrades, utilising new and existing technologies and requiring multiple interfaces with customers/suppliers
Identifying technical and programmatic risks, their management and their mitigation, in association with the project manager
Delivering projects to meet customer and contractual obligations; management of cost, quality, timeliness and specification
Resolving engineering conflicts (in conjunction with, and in support of, the delegated technical authority) between disciplines, systems and capabilities
Integrating activity and solution development; meeting a coherent and prioritised set of demands, tailoring and applying engineering processes, tools and approaches to develop innovative and creative solutions to contracts and specifications
Your skills and qualifications:
Experience in engineering management
Ability to manage diverse stakeholder groups, both internal and external
Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and provide overall direction to them
Knowledge of engineering lifecycle
Knowledge of high Safety Integrity Level development lifecycles and culture
Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
Knowledge of submarine / surface / other command and control systems
Knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering / Engineering Lifecycles in both MoD (CADMID) and /or BAE (LCM) terminology
Knowledge of Sonar processing fundamentals
Knowledge of map/chart data types, manipulation and data presentation techniques
Knowledge of navigation data sensor systems, limitation of use, and blending of data from multiple sources

As well as being skilled in problem solving across multiple technology domains and engineering disciplines, you will also hold strong written and verbal communication skills. You will also possess the ability to multi-task between multiple concurrent tasks at different stages of the lifecycle.

Maritime Submarines - Combat Systems
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700 people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Broad Oak, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.
We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.
Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet - essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
