Turn your curiosity into reality

HMGCC is a centre of technical excellence, where careers are unique in the field of manufacturing. From our hi-tech facilities, we craft, design and create one-off products that push technology to the limits. It’s why we can offer apprenticeships unlike any other. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the whole process, and turn your technical curiosity into world-leading reality.

About the programme

Our three-year Advanced Mechanical Manufacturing apprenticeship is designed to give you the best start to your career. Throughout the programme, your time will be split between a local college – where you’ll complete an academic qualification – and on-the-job training at HMGCC. That way, you’ll build a solid foundation of practical skills and technical knowledge. In fact, you’ll receive blended learning through classroom training, mentored work placements, and customer projects. And, to top it off, we’ll even fund your membership with a professional organisation, such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Working alongside our team of experts, you’ll pick up the breadth and depth of experience needed to become a vital part of our future. We’ll also offer you a positive and creative work environment, as well as all the tools and training to develop into the best you can be. By the end of it, you’ll have gained an NVQ in Engineering Technical Support Level 3 Extended Diploma. And, depending on your start point, you’ll either achieve a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering, or BTEC Level 4 HNC in Mechanical Engineering.

The future

If successful, you’ll work in our state-of-the-art manufacturing building alongside our engineers and gain experience in all fields of mechanical manufacturing – from manual machining and 3D printing to mechanical design. But your development won’t end there. We’ll continue to invest in your skills and knowledge. And you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation with boundless opportunities to progress.

About you

As this is an Advanced Apprenticeship, you’ll already have four GCSEs, at Grade A* to C/9-4 including maths, English and science, or an equivalent qualification in an engineering subject. We’ll want to see a genuine passion for technology, a natural curiosity, and an inventive way of approaching problems. While we’re not accepting applications from anyone with an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject – we will accept those who have two A Levels at C or above in maths and physics, a BTEC L3 in Mechanical Engineering (at Merit or above) including further maths, or an equivalent L3 qualification in a related engineering subject.

You’ll also have bags of integrity, approaching work in a professional, honest and reliable manner. You’ll enjoy working in a team, cooperating, collaborating, supporting and respecting others to ensure you can understand and achieve our goals. And you’ll also want to do something that matters, adding value to our organisation by delivering the best possible service, even when you’re faced with a challenge. What truly sets you apart is your resourcefulness, using your curiosity to fuel your passion for technology, developing your own skills and knowledge along the way to produce accurate and detailed work.
