Turn your curiosity into reality

HMGCC is a centre of technical excellence, where careers are unique in the field of manufacturing. From our hi-tech facilities, we craft, design and create one-off products that push technology to the limits. It’s why we can offer apprenticeships unlike any other. As an IT Support Apprentice, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a diverse range of hardware and software products throughout the programme.

About the programme

Our one-year IT Support apprenticeship is designed to give you the best start to your career. You’ll be given a series of one-week academic training blocks with face-to-face learning.  That way, you’ll build a solid foundation of practical skills and knowledge of technical ICT support. This will cover such topics as networking and architecture, mobile and desktop operating systems, server fundamentals, business process and introduction to scripting (coding and logic). For the rest of your training, you’ll receive blended learning through mentored work placements. And, to top it off, we’ll even fund your membership with a professional organisation such as the British Computer Society.

Working alongside our team of experts, you’ll pick up the breadth and depth of experience needed to become a vital part of our future. We’ll also offer you a positive and creative work environment, as well as the tools and training to become the best you can be. By the end of it, you’ll have gained a
City & Guilds Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship. Please note, to ensure we have support at the right times, you’ll be required to work a flexible, informal rota between 0800-1700 (excluding bank holidays).

The future

If you’re successful, you’ll become a permanent member of our ICT Support Team, with opportunities to specialise in the future. But your development won’t end there. We’ll continue to invest in your skills and knowledge. And you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation with boundless opportunities to progress.

About you

To apply, you’ll already have GCSEs at Grade A* to C/9-4 in English, maths, and a technology or IT subject. Alternatively, you’ll have a relevant Level 2 Apprenticeship, or another relevant qualification or equivalent experience. Please note, we’re not accepting applications from anyone with an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject.

You’ll also have bags of integrity, approaching work in a professional, honest and reliable manner. You’ll enjoy working in a team, cooperating, collaborating, supporting and respecting others to ensure you can understand and achieve our goals. And you’ll also want to do something that matters, adding value to our organisation by delivering the best possible service, even when you’re faced with a challenge. What truly sets you apart is your resourcefulness, using your curiosity to fuel your passion for technology, developing your own skills and knowledge along the way to produce accurate and detailed work.
