Would you like to play a key role in the development and delivery of submarine combat systems? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As an Engineering Manager you will be working within a brand new facility which is an integral part of the successful delivery of the platform. You will be responsible for the management of the internal communications team and the control and instrumentation team, ensuring that the facility is run in accordance with the agreed quality framework, management plans and processes, whilst being responsible for deliverable outputs.
This role will provide you with exposure to the wider BAE Systems business and the opportunity for progression.
Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager - Shore Integration Facility will involve:
Ensuring that the internal communication platform data systems and C&I capability designs are achievable and justified
Making sure internal communication platform data systems and C&I capability designs have been subjected to appropriate levels of rigour and lifecycle
Ensuring that internal communication platform data systems and C&I infrastructure and equipment procurement is achieved in line with the agreed spend forecast.
Delivering the overall validation and verification activities in line with the programme, ensuring that customer and user requirements are elicited and agreed, and that systems and equipment are compliant with these requirements
Ensuring all relevant LfE is fed back into the submarine programme across all engineering disciplines and across relevant functions e.g. other integration facilities, supply chain, quality department
Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Manager - Shore Integration Facility:
Degree qualified in relevant engineering disciplines e.g. BEng (Hons) / MSC (Eng) or equivalent
Knowledge of electrical and communications systems
Demonstrable experience in communicating to senior management both oral and written
Experience in a test and trials environment
Knowledge of information assurance, product security and routes to accreditation with MOD DIAS
Experience of working with the MOD, including knowledge of the MOD Engineering Lifecycle
Knowledge of integration of complex systems into platforms
Knowledge of product safety policy and processes
Knowledge of submarine systems, design and operation, including transverse aspects, safety and certification

It is important to also be analytically minded and diplomatic. Being able to thrive under pressure is also essential for this position.

Maritime Submarines - Combat Systems
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700 people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Broad Oak, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.
We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.
Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet - essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
