Would you like to play a key role in specialist modelling activities for Land Vehicles, Military Bridging and Munitions products for the MoD? We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee Structural Analyst at our site in Radway Green.
As a Trainee Structural Analyst, you will be tasked with the generation, interrogation and maintenance of models using commercial software to meet the growing needs of the business and customer. Generation of models is required for strength of design, product performance assessments, as well as design optimisation, and heat transfer analysis.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside industry subject matter experts, with the potential to work with other Land and Munitions projects in the future.
Your main responsibilities as a Trainee Structural Analyst will involve:
Maintaining the existing database of models and simulations, including learning how to adapt these models to suit present and future requirements
Generating new models using commercial software to fulfil customer and business requirements as and when the need arises
Being involved in discussions and advisory sessions with other employees and customer representatives
Managing and conducting research tasks negotiated with the customer and business to offer new capabilities to the aforementioned parties
Undertaking the preparation of basic structural calculations using traditional methods to check simulation results
Preparing reports and recording modelling processes and presenting simulation output
Appreciating the importance of achieving strength of structural design
Your skills and qualifications as a Trainee Structural Analyst:
A further education qualification (BSc or HND) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, however Maths, Physics, or similar would be suitable
Some experience of using Finite Element solvers such as ABAQUS and LS-Dyna
Excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications for both technical report writing, and post-processing/presentation of results
Some programming knowledge (Java, Python, MatLab, or similar)
