Due to continued growth we are looking for a CAD Engineer to join our Strategic Investment Design Team based in our prestigious new premises in Reading, One Forbury Place, conveniently located in Reading town centre.
The Strategic Investment Design team carry out the design work for new electricity connections, increasing the size of customers’ existing connections, installing generation, and moving equipment for third parties. The team specialises in the design and construction of electrical projects on distribution networks, up to and including 132kV. The projects covered include; overhead line, underground cable and electrical substation work. Our responsibility is to respond to challenging changes in our licence obligations, and growing levels of competition.
As CAD Engineer you will be responsible for the production of plans, elevations, assembly layouts, operation diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams and other protection drawings. You will have responsibility for the production of cable layouts, trench section details and material schedules and will be responsible for the accuracy of these drawings and associated safety matters.
To be successful in this role you will ideally have an engineering background and will be familiar with AutoCAD software (2D) and Microstation. SSE is currently developing 3D modelling supported by Autodesk software including Revit, an understanding in this area would be a distinct advantage.
You’ll have good communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative as well as being part of a team. There will be a requirement to work to tight timescales, and provide first class customer service at all stages of the project; therefore, the ability to thrive under pressure is essential.
A good attitude to work and the flexibility to adapt to changing project and business priorities is essential. You will be required to go out on site therefore a full UK driving license is required for this role.
