Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

RIIO is Ofgem’s framework for setting price controls for network companies. It’s an essential tool in protecting the interests of consumers as well as ensuring the industry still benefits from the investment required to ensure security of supply. The current price control framework for electricity will end in 2021 for transmission and 2023 for distribution and this role will be the technical lead in the development and delivery of its successor: RIIO 2.

It is intended that the work will take place in two phases. In the first (a review of the existing RIIO Framework) you’ll bring your engineering expertise and understanding of network companies’ business to offer advice across a range of essential technical considerations and questions. The second phase is the detailed design and delivery of the price controls in each sector, where you will bring expertise and insight to issues around network design and operation, network investment and construction, asset management and other technical issues.

As well as being a Chartered Engineer, this role demands some very specific experience and knowledge. You should have a proven track record in a technical role in an electricity network company, and be able to offer expertise in developing technical asset investment programmes. You should also have experience of network company price controls and be able to bring a strategic insight to technical issues. It’s important that your in-depth technical knowledge is complemented by highly developed communication skills, and that you can engage non-technical audiences on complex subject matter. And the ability to establish effective, collaborative working relationships at a senior and operational level across different professional disciplines will be vital to success in the role.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:

  • Up to 30 days’ annual leave
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
  • Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
  • Interest free season ticket loan.

Closing date: midnight, 23rd October 2017
