To provide specialist automotive modelling and data logging technical knowledge and skills to the Transport Team. This function enables Cenex to offer a range of services to help our clients understand the performance of low emission technologies within fleets. The ideal candidate will be able to

  • Develop simulation models of vehicles
  • Understand how vehicle CANbus operates, how to access and collect data from it
  • Write routines to analyse and process data
  • Manage technical project delivery and associated client liaison
  • Mentor and support more junior members of the team in developing their skills.

This job is open to individuals with at least three-years’ experience in a relevant role.


  • Development of vehicle and fleet simulation models in Matlab/Simulink to demonstrate the performance of low emission and conventional technologies to fleet customers or vehicle product developers
  • Manage the technical development of our inhouse fleet support software. This includes our Clear Capture service ( and our Fleet Carbon Reduction Tool (
  • Specify, plan and manage external contractors to undertake emissions testing of low emissions technologies (PEMs and/or laboratory)
  • Analysis of large sets of data recorded on vehicles or downloaded from telemetry systems, automation of analysis techniques
  • Support and manage projects in the Cenex R&D portfolio researching and assessing the potential impact and performance of innovative low emission transport options.
  • Develop and write technical papers and reports (and present where required) on Cenex projects
  • Mentor and support more junior members of the transport team to develop capability



  • Proven experience of producing vehicle simulation models, analysis large data sets and automation of data tasks
  • Understanding of vehicle CANbus, connection and communication protocols
  • Experience of on-vehicle data logging
  • Software development
  • Engineering or technical degree
  • Data analysis skills
  • Relevant environmental or automotive industry experience
  • Educated to at least degree level in scientific or mathematical subject
  • Good communicator, analytical mind
  • Completer/finisher task orientated, capable of working unsupervised
  • Reporting and presentation experience
  • UK Driving licence
  • Entitled to work in the UK
  • Willing to relocate to the East Midlands


  • Database administration, management and analysis skills (eg, mySQL, MSSQL)
  • Understanding of emissions testing equipment, processes and regulations
  • Experience of low emission vehicle technologies
  • Experience working with vehicle fleets
  • Relevant post graduate qualification
  • Interest in environmental technology
  • Project management experience and training (PRINCE2 or an equivalent)


  • £30,000 – £45,000 dependent on skills and experience
  • Relocation package available
