The Opportunity
An opportunity exists for a self-motivated engineer to join the Complex Warheads Centre of Excellence team in Stevenage.  The role provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer to demonstrate their ability to manage a complex and important part of a major missile programme. 
 
The individual will be co-located within the project team and will report on a daily basis to the Chief Design Engineer (CDE).  Functional support will be provided by Head of the Equipment Requirement Authority (ERA) Team within the Complex Warheads Centre of Excellence (UK).
 
The Role
  • Working as an integral part of the Project team to provide Technical and programme management of the internal warhead subcontract.
  • Act as the main interface with the Equipment Design Authority (DA).
  • Leading a distributed multi-disciplinary team (of various Engineering skills, and Procurement) with responsibilities for the warhead technical requirements and associated development programme.
  • Task Package planning and reporting, including ensuring Primavera plans are available to support critical path and earned value analysis.
  • Reviewing and accepting deliverable documentation, concessions, compliance statements, warhead performance reports and associated test equipment.
  • Liaising with relevant national authorities and bodies where applicable (e.g. Defence Ordnance Safety Group - DOSG).
  • Ensuring the application of relevant company, national and international policies and standards.
  • Maintaining a high level of personal domain expertise of conventional warhead technology and energetic materials, design standards and practices.
  • Representing project interests in a series of qualification Performance and Environmental warhead trials undertaken to demonstrate compliance with subsystem requirements.
  • Manage the Lethal Functional Chain design within the missile, ensuring that Probability of Kill (Pk) requirements are effectively partitioned between guidance, fuzing and the warhead.

  • The Complex Warheads Centre of Excellence is an exciting new department organised within Technical Directorate. It comprises over 40 professional scientists and engineers in France (Le Plessis Robinson site) and UK (Stevenage & Bolton) undertaking design, simulation & modelling, trials and supplier management. Its role is to define requirements for the Lethal Function and to design Complex Warheads, for UK and French programmes.
  • You will be seconded to an established and successful missile development team, and will have considerable autonomy in defining the way you interface with the suppliers.
  • You will get opportunities to demonstrate your capability in a role which has high visibility across MBDA, and will get experience of dealing with the MBDA Customer community.
 
Who and what we are looking for from you?
  • Ideally degree qualified or equivalent in an engineering or scientific discipline with relevant working experience, preferably related to warheads/munitions, energetics and associated safety.
  • Good engineering judgment.
  • Passion to achieve success
  • Delivering subcontracted subsystems is desirable.
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills supported by office IT software skills.
  • Application of appropriate personal behaviours including self-motivation, initiative, leadership, adaptability, planning and organisation.
  • Capability to travel in the UK and Europe on a regular basis.
