Senior Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar

Would you like to play a key role in the delivery and implementation of Under Water Systems equipment for UK submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar at our site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

As a Senior Engineer you will be responsible for supporting the Lead Engineer in overseeing original equipment manufacturers, commissioning, and operations staff in the delivery of these complex and critical combat systems. You will also be carrying out defect rectification, supplier visits, and supporting sea trials during the commissioning phase.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to have a direct impact on the availability and capability of the UK's submarine fleet, and be a part of one of the country's most complex engineering programmes.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar will involve:

Supporting the lead engineer in the implementation and delivery of Under Water Systems (UWS) for the submarine platform

Representing UWS equipment group on site during the build process, responding to general queries and investigating non-conformances

Supporting the management of mechanical interfaces for UWS for in-build submarines

Support with defect rectification on behalf of UWS

Attend Supplier Acceptance events to support the management of the build programme

Supporting system integration during build and on sea trials

Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar:

Essential:

Qualification in engineering discipline (time-served apprenticeship/ HNC/ HND/ Degree level qualification) or equivalent level of experience

Electro-mechanical engineering experience

Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders including OEMs and sub-contractors

Desirable:

Knowledge of the build life-cycle including integration and setting to work

Ship building / marine/ defence/ offshore industry experience
