Principal Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar
Would you like to play a key role in the delivery and implementation of Under Water Systems (UWS) equipment for UK submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar at our site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
As a Principal Engineer you will be representing the UWS Equipment Group during the build process. You will be working closely with internal stakeholders to manage and allocate resourcing levels for proposed schedules, and overseeing contractors, original equipment manufacturers, and operations staff performing commissioning and defect rectification.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to have a direct impact on the availability and capability of the UK's submarine fleet, and be a part of one of the country's most complex engineering programmes.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar will involve:
Managing the implementation and delivery of Under Water Systems (UWS) for the submarine platform
Representing UWS equipment group on site during the build process, responding to general queries and investigating non-conformances
Liaising with project managers and the dockside test organisation to ensure resources are available for proposed work schedules
Support defect rectification on behalf of UWS
Carrying out supplier visits to support the management of the build programme
Deputising for UWS implementation manager where necessary
Supporting system integration during build and on sea trials as required
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer Domain Specialist - Sonar:
Qualification in engineering discipline (time-served apprenticeship/ HNC/ HND/ Degree level qualification) or equivalent level of experience
Knowledge of the build life-cycle including integration and setting to work
Ability to build and maintenance relationships with a variety of stakeholders including OEMs and sub-contractors
Good awareness of health and safety processes in an engineering environment
Previous UWS experience including sonar systems
Ship building / marine/ defence/ offshore knowledge
Experience of compiling technical reports
Electrical engineering experience
