Would you like to thrive in a pivotal role delivering heavy munitions projects? We currently have a vacancy for a Materials Scientist at our site in Glascoed.
As a Materials Scientist, you will work within the scientific function to assess and identify suitable materials to use with the product. You will be required to take into account suitability of the material for the products to ascertain quality and performance.
This diverse role will provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting projects within the Land UK business where you will get to work with various stakeholders. The newly redeveloped Glascoed site offers excellent staff facilities and benefits including a gym, football courts, as well as bespoke training courses and support for chartership and higher education.
Your main responsibilities as a Materials Scientist will involve:
Improvement of existing processes, to include design and development of new processes, with particular emphasis on, corrosion protection, heat treatment, surface engineering and surface coating technologies to enhance product safety
Corrosion testing, non-destructive testing (NDT), and mechanical testing of raw materials and components using both internal and external resources
Liaising with design engineers, procurement professionals and raw material suppliers to develop and maintain material specifications, and assess new manufacturing technologies with particular emphasis on evolving regulatory requirements relating to materials and processes influenced by REACH legislation
Carry out and support defect analysis and failure investigation from a metallurgical aspect, including metallographic and SEM fractographic and chemical analyses, and corrosion control
Writing and compilation of reports using information from both internal and external sources
Your skills and qualifications:
A recognised metallurgical or material science qualification, preferably to degree level, but minimum HND/HNC
Experience in providing metallurgical advice in the selection of materials, manufacturing processes and mechanical testing of non-ferrous and ferrous metals, including NDT procedures, and corrosion assessment control
A full valid UK driving license
An understanding of national and international material and material processing standards
Experience in paint and adhesive technologies
Experience of quality control and quality assurance techniques applicable to an ISO 9001 accredited company including:
- Statistical process control (preferably Minitab)
- Fault Tree analysis
- Lean Manufacturing

Salary: £32,285 + commensurate with skills and experience
