Head of Complex Systems - Sonar

We currently have a unique opportunity to become the Head of Complex Systems - Sonar in our Complex Systems and Support business. The Head of Complex Systems - Sonar, is responsible for managing the Underwater Systems (UWS) sub-system of the Combat System for all UK Submarines.

As Head of Complex Systems - Sonar you will lead a team of Project Managers and Engineers, with embedded support from out procurement team, to deliver the UWS product strategy, system design, and implementation through a number of Major Complex Subcontracts. Providing strategic management of key suppliers will be essential for the success of the submarine enterprise.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to sponsor and deliver the development of Sonar capability through a Flotilla Integrated Sonar Programme (FISP). This will require careful and effective stakeholder management, transitioning to a new Business Operating model that moves away from platform or class specific funding to an integrated funding approach that will see new sonar capability being available to all platforms in a cost effective and timely manner.

Your main responsibilities as Head of Complex Systems - Sonar will involve:

Strategic Supplier Management of Thales for BAE Systems plc

Produce and maintain the Flotilla Integrated Sonar Programme (FISP) that is aligned with customer needs and budgets.

Management of the supply and integration of large software subcontracts

Define the Sonar spiral capability requirements for the Common Combat System infrastructure (mixed processing, network bandwidth, processing load).

Leadership of a team

Your skills and qualifications:

Experience of complex sub-contracts and supply chain management

Experience across the product lifecycle from research to disposal

Proven leadership and people management skills

Exposure to MOD as customer

As a senior Executive you will be a member of the Complex Systems and Support Directorate Management Team that operates our "business within a business". This will involve you in defining the operating framework and setting business direction. As a strategic thinker you will be highly self-motivated and demonstrate the ability to lead this development

Location: Frimley with travel within the UK required

Maritime Submarines - Combat Systems

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700 people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Portsmouth, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.
We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.
Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet - essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
