Would you like to play a key role in the delivery and development of submarine combat systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Consultant Engineer at our site in either Frimley or Weymouth
As a Consultant Engineer you will have responsibility for defining technical requirements, high level infrastructure solutions and interfaces for subsequent procurements and integration. You will be liaising with customers and seeing projects through to completion, ensuring they run smoothly within agreed timescales and budgets.
This role will provide you with vast professional development opportunities within the rapidly expanding Submarines Combat Systems business as well as the wider business.
Your main responsibilities as a Consultant Engineer will involve:
Working with new products and complex upgrades, whilst utilising new and existing technologies, requiring multiple interfaces with customers/suppliers
Ensuring projects are delivered to meet customer and contractual obligations; management of cost, quality, timeliness and specification
Ensuring the resolution of engineering conflicts between disciplines, systems and capabilities
Managing the integration of activity and solution development, meeting a coherent and prioritised set of demands, tailor and apply engineering processes.
Developing the tools and approaches to ensure innovative and creative solutions to contracts and specifications
Overseeing the identification and exploitation of commonality across the various projects and programmes to enable more efficient delivery
Your skills and qualifications:
Demonstrable systems engineering experience involving complex engineering programmes. This experience must include design change, management of requirements, impact assessments, and configuration management
Experience managing diverse stakeholder groups, both internal and external
Being able to work with multi-disciplinary teams and provide overall technical direction to them
Ability to manage diverse stakeholder groups, both internal and external
Knowledge of engineering lifecycle
Experience of submarine, surface ships or other complex computing infrastructure systems environments
Model-based systems engineering knowledge
What we're looking for in you:
You will be a self-motivating individual, with a desire to learn and the ability to motivate a team. Having an enthusiasm for problem solving would be ideal along with strong written and verbal communication skills. You must also have the ability to multi-task between multiple concurrent tasks at different stages of the lifecycle.

Maritime Submarines - Combat Systems
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700 people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Broad Oak, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.
We are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval environment.
Our Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the submarine combat systems in the UK fleet - essentially, the eyes and ears of each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert programme management and world-class engineering.
