System Design Engineer - Electrical

Would you like to play a key role in the design and development of weapon systems? We currently have a vacancy for a System Design Engineer - Electrical at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a System Design Engineer - Electrical, you will be part of the team working on various military weapons contracts, such as the M777 Howitzer and Naval 4.5 Mk8 Gun. You will be working throughout all stages of the product lifecycle from concept design and development, through to manufacture and implementation.

Your main responsibilities as a System Design Engineer - Electrical will involve:

Preparing and/or overseeing the definition of system requirements, the development of specifications and the preparation of complex and business critical engineering designs

Developing, maintaining and controlling the technical interface to customers, suppliers and collaborators to ensure effective and swift resolution of technical issues and to deliver contractual commitments

The validation of any systems/ equipment, which may include the generation of test schedules, test and integration plans and the writing/investigation of test problem reports

Developing strong links with applicable customers to underpin our commitment to customer satisfaction and to assist in identifying and maximising the potential of new business opportunities

Liaising with customer representatives, classification authorities, suppliers and other internal functions, as necessary, to discuss technical issues and problems

Scheduling your own work and that of subordinates to meet target timescales and budget demands, including the creation of low level schedules and task plans

Mentoring and motivating subordinates to ensure the accountabilities of the business are delivered and to enable them to maximise their potential

Your skills and qualifications as a System Design Engineer - Electrical:

Essential:

Electrical/software design background on complex engineering projects

Health and Safety awareness, including Product Safety

Working knowledge of motion control systems

Desirable:

Defence domain experience

Working knowledge of MATLAB/ Simulink (or equivalent package)
