Principal Engineer - Product Assurance (SWS)
Would you like to play a key role in the product assurance of the whole boat aspects of the Strategic Weapon Systems (SWS) design intent for our advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Product Assurance at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be working closely with designers of platform systems to identify any issues that could arise from the SWS design intent that may have a whole boat impact and assuring throughout the product lifecycle that design intent will not be compromised.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on some of the most advanced defence technology on exciting current and future submarine platforms, providing an opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of each complex system.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Product Assurance will involve:
Providing the Chief Engineer (Assurance & Safety) with technical and assurance advice relevant to the Strategic Weapon Support Systems (SWSS) Selected Ship Systems (SSS) aspects of SWS
Providing technical and assurance advice relevant to whole boat systems, procedures, transversals and standards that have an impact on Strategic Systems operation, performance and safety
Supporting the development and maintenance of the technical and safety assurance programmes
Compiling assurance evidence of whole boat impact through review, surveillance and audit of strategic Systems design, build, commissioning, and certification process, plans, activities and outputs, as required by the Product Assurance Programme and to ensure required levels of compliance, safety, performance and security
Providing assurance evidence, supporting the arrangements for the whole boat safe management of embarked strategic munitions
Identifying and monitoring SWS issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages that compromise or modify the whole boat design intent, ensuring appropriate ownership and management to a satisfactory conclusion
Having a clear understanding of and apply the quality and HS&E management system documentation including Process Instructions, workmanship standards and risk assessments applicable to the scope of work, and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
Your skills and qualifications:
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of safety and engineering life cycles - preferably applied to maritime platforms within comparable safety critical industries
Experience working on Strategic Weapon Systems, Strategic Weapon Support Systems (SWSS) and Selected Ship Systems (SSS)
Experience of health and safety management systems
Appreciation of Life Cycle Management (LCM) design reviews, audits, change management, design proving, product verification, build surveillance and/or product assurance, qualification activities and issue resolution
Knowledge and experience on the application of quality and HSE legislation, including the application of workmanship standards, risk assessments,
Knowledge of data management applied across a complex engineering environment
Ability to oversee the integration of systems into complex platform domains
