Salary: £44,644 to £49,944 plus £2,930 location allowance. You will receive £44,644 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £49,944 will be via incremental progression

From missing person searches to VIP protection, our Specialist Search Technical Services Team supports a range of Met activities. As the unit’s Technical Manager, you’ll have a vital role in its operations. This is a rare opportunity to apply technical expertise in the unique world of policing.
The Specialist Search Technical Services team assists an array of Met operations. These include Counter Terrorism searches, protective event security, technical surveillance countermeasures and the maintenance of explosive ordnance disposal equipment. You’ll oversee all aspects of the team’s welfare and performance, from technical work, finances and procurement to health & safety, security and strategic direction. You’ll be the person who makes sure that staff meet targets and deliver high quality work. You’ll also be part of a 24/7 on-call roster, supporting live operations. That means being deployed alongside officers, on the streets of London. Expect to operate search equipment, deal with the public and handle sensitive information, drawing on your technical knowledge, people skills and natural sense of integrity.
To join us, you must be a capable leader who can manage budgets and get the best out of specialist teams. Your technical knowledge will be based on a UK OfQual defined level 6/5 qualification in relevant engineering or scientific discipline (or equivalent). You’ll also bring experience in an appropriate field, and ideally expertise in areas such as the following:
- Explosives detection
- Portable x-ray systems
- RF spectrum analysis
- Counter terrorism search and detection technologies
- Procurement, modification and testing of systems
Please note that a category B driving licence is also essential. This role is subject to security vetting.
